This replica of the 15th century Lamont harp was built by David Kortier, of Duluth, MN, USA, in the first half of 2008, making its display debut at Scoil na gCláirseach 2008.
Its three components are cut from American soft (silver) maple wood, with extensive colouration and frost-markings. The neck and pillar are morticed onto the one-piece soundbox hollowed from behind. The separate back board is of yew.
It is decorated with burned double lines copying the original and also with decorative brasswork: fox heads and tails adorn the two straps joining the neck and pillar, and each brass tuning pin has incised lines and dots.
The brass string shoes copy the elaborate shape of the originals. There are 32 tuning pins and 32 string shoes, placed as on the original.
Stringing: 2 x 18 carat gold; 2 x 14 carat gold; 15 x silver, the remainder historical brass
Tuning: 32 strings, C D E G a b c d e f g g a b c' up to f'''
(c' is middle c)
The instrument is currently available for sale and can be viewed by appointment in Co. Waterford, Ireland
