This copy of the 15th century Trinity College harp was built in Paul Doyle's workshop, Galway, by Natalie Surina and Paul Doyle, making its display debut at Scoil na gCláirseach 2008.
This instrument uses a modern construction, with the soundbox glued from planks and the neck/pillar assembled as a single unit from four pieces of wood, with a central seam. Irish sycamore wood is used throughout.
The decoration follows the original as accurately as possible, and is based on notes made by Doyle & Surina during multiple visits to Trinity College. The decoration is burned onto the wood surface except for the deep chip-carving on the neck. The string shoes are handmade from brass, and the brass strips on the neck are engraved with patterns following the original. The tuning pins are iron.
The instrument is finished with modern wood stain and varnish, and has a standard 'student' stringing: 8 sterling silver, 21 yellow brass, tuned G to f''' including comhluighe at g.
The instrument is currently available for sale and can be viewed by appointment in Galway, Ireland
