Courses starting 3 October: Music of the Medieval World; Knots of Harmony: Music of the medieval welsh harpers; Bunting's favourite Harper: Dennis O'Hampsay
Music of the Medieval World Explore music from thirteenth- to fifteenth-century England, France, Spain, and Italy. Presented by historical harpists Claire Piganiol and Leah Stuttard, this course is a lively, hands-on introduction to playing medieval music on the harp. Knots of Harmony: music of the medieval Welsh harpers Enter the bardic Welsh sound-world of the 'art of the string' through the music preserved in the Robert ap Huw manuscript. Guided by Karen Loomis, participants will explore the enigmatic 'knots of harmony' and learn a complete piece from the manuscript. Bunting's Favourite Harper: Dennis O'Hampsay Learn the music of one of Ireland's most important harpers, whose ‘thrilling’ playing Edward Bunting could ‘never forget’ and ‘the only one who played the very old…music of the country’. Presented by leading experts Siobhán Armstrong and James Ruff.
